About our Fertility Method

The Billings Ovulation Method™ is a well established method that can help you maximise your chances of conceiving. It has been successfully trialled by the World Health Organisation and is validated by eminent international scientists. Although the method is completely natural, it is a very viable way of achieving pregnancy because it teaches you to recognise the times of natural infertility and potential fertility in your cycle and when ovulation is imminent. At the heart of the method is the belief that education about the reproductive system, the menstrual cycle and the different symptoms a woman experiences throughout her cycle will help a couple identify when they are at their most fertile.

How does the method work?

When you first meet with your Billings Ovulation Method™ tutor she will take a medical history. She will ask you questions about your age, previous family planning history, other pregnancies and miscarriages, your health, and any medications you take. She will then explain the Billings Ovulation Method™ to you and ask you to begin keeping a daily chart of your body's natural signs of fertility. Learning to recognise these signs will greatly improve your chances of becoming pregnant. Understanding these signs of fertility enables you to time intercourse to coincide with the most fertile part of your cycle.

You have probably noticed different types of cervical mucus during your menstrual cycle, and thought nothing of it. But far from being nothing, this mucus is essential for fertility. Your tutor will explain how to observe your cervical mucus to identify your pre-ovulation pattern of infertility. You will also learn to recognise the signs of beginning fertility–a change in the sensation and appearance of the mucus. And you will learn to observe how the mucus feels wetter and then slippery as ovulation approaches. Your tutor will explain how to use this information to maximise your chances of conceiving.

Getting the facts

Your tutor will give you the information you need to identify your time of peak fertility.  She will provide you with the guidelines to ensure you have the best possible chance of conceiving. Your Billings Ovulation Method™ chart is the most effective way of learning to recognise your unique pattern of fertility and infertility according to the mucus signals. All of this information will help you identify on any day whether intercourse could or could not result in pregnancy.

How successful are we in achieving pregnancy?

Billings LIFE has helped many couples to become pregnant, including those who had been trying to conceive for more than two years or who had failed attempts with IVF. A recent trial demonstrated a pregnancy rate of 78 percent, with a 65 percent success rate in sub-fertile couples. Compare this to pregnancy rates of around 20 percent achieved with one cycle of IVF.[1]
